I have recently retired from full-time corporate work and desire to commit time toward offering my spiritual and motivational gifts with persons seeking personal transformation in Jesus Christ and willing to persevere in the challenging but fulfilling work of sanctification/transformation. I lived homosexually from 24 to 40, have walked out of homosexuality personally, know what the struggle feels like and can testify to God’s goodness and grace in this process.

As Christ followers, we are called to die to self daily, become alive to Christ and the fulfilling life He has for us, and invest in our relationship with Him and healthy relationships with others. Through the process of sanctification, we grapple with our sinful tendencies, apply the powerful news of Jesus Christ to our hearts, overcome the thinking, attitudes and behaviors that comprise homosexuality and replace them with God’s “good, pleasing and perfect will” for us. (Rom. 12:2).

As a Living Waters Coordinator for over 15 years, I have had many opportunities to mentor others and be mentored by others. I walk beside and encourage others as others have walked with me and ministered Jesus to me, including Restored Hope ministries, pastors, counselors and friends. As a mentor, I aim to hear what a person is experiencing and saying and pray with them from a listening heart. My goals are to understand the person; extend grace, mercy and truth; and speak truth in love. When helpful, I share from my personal experience of transformation and insights gained. Barnabas is a model for me: he was a generous giver, a faithful friend, a committed encourager and a forgiving brother. I aim to be a “Barnabas” with others. My pastor says, "Steve is remarkably intentional, compassionate, and accessible."

The mentoring I offer is by phone or zoom. I negotiate and set healthy boundaries for both the person I’m mentoring and me, including frequency and time for phone calls. The first phone call is to determine if the mentoring is a good fit. To schedule a call, please email goblementoring@gmail.com
